GRANT POLICY

This document sets out the criteria determined by the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Canadian Association for Numismatic Education (“CAFNE”) for the awarding of charitable grants by CAFNE. The Board, however, reserves the right to deviate from Sections 3 to 12 of this Grant Policy in appropriate circumstances.

1) All grants must be determined by the Board to be made for numismatic educational purposes in accordance with the By-laws of CAFNE.

2) All requested grant amounts must be broken down into individual expense items. The Board will consider the educational purpose of each component of a grant request. The Board may approve some components of a grant request and not others. The Board will not approve a requests for an aggregate amount of grant request for an event, which is not broken down into individual expense items.

3) All grant requests must be in writing, and received more than 30 days before the anticipated date when the requested funds are to be deployed. Grant requests received less than 30 days before the date when requested funds are to be deployed will not be approved.

4) The Board will not approve expenses for travel, accomodation or meals for a speaker at an educational event.

5) The Board will not approve a grant request to pay for food or drinks at an educational event.

6) The Board will consider requests for speaker honoraria in an amount not to exceed $50 per hour of speaker lecture/presentation, or the cost of a medal to be presented to a speaker/lecture presenter, not to exceed $100, but will not pay an honorarium to persons organising an educational event, or to persons preparing educational materials for said event.

7) If expenses for a room rental for an educational event are being requested, the Board will only approve expenses for that portion of the room rental fee that is being used for the educational event (i.e. if the room is being used for a variety of purposes, CAFNE will only fund the proportion of the rental fee that relates directly to the holding of the educational event).

8) The Board will not approve expenses for the holding of an educational event if a commercial venture is charging admission to the event, unless access to the educational event can be obtained without paying any admission fee to the commercial venture.

9) The Board will consider funding for the printing of numismatic educational books and materials, or the out-of-pocket expenses for the development of numismatic educational virtual materials, including the numismatic educational portions of websites.

10) The Board will consider a grant request for the purpose of purchasing items for distribution to participants at educational events, if the distribution itself is considered to have an educational purpose (i.e. items for distribution at junior educational events aimed at teaching children about numismatics)

11) All grants will be made on the condition that the recipient reports to CAFNE on the actual application of the grant funds, including copies of receipts. If a recipient fails to report on past usage, or applies funds for purposes other than as requested and granted, the Board May not approve future grants to that recipient.

12) CAFNE donations must be recognised in the promotional materials for a sponsored event. If a recipient fails to recognize a CAFNE donation in its promotional materials, the Board may not approve future grants to that recipient.
